(Ages 5 - 8) Once Upon a Family Bed

.....................

...................I love sleeping with Mom and Dad;
.........................snugglin' old quilts, bumping toes with brother Sam.
............................Susie snoozin', wrapped tight at Daddy's back,
.........................Kitty Spot, purring soft by baby Jack.
............................Don't 'member when sleep-overs began -
.........................just that “treat” times they getta pick,
............................even when we see'd Dancin Dan.

.........................In their bed, ain't much space for us four.
............................If I squirm any I fall to the floor.
.........................Mom zips round, checking booboo's saying,
............................“You're lucky it's not your head, Fred.”
.........................I giggle and wiggle my way back in
............................trying to find my place again,
.........................but no one moves – cept my dog, Ben.

............................One night, I hear'd a whisper slither and I bewared
.........................and hoped it's not toes tapping on stairs.
............................I wish it's not Dancin Dan, but I get giggles
.........................and start to slobber wet and give my sister a jiggle.
............................Then I 'member supper, “Your mom's chili is like no other,”
.........................Dad said, “it's a pure work a art.”
............................then I know'd my beware - Jack just farted!

.........................I love sleepin with Mom and Dad.
............................Hope we always can, even when we been bad.
.........................Cause there really is a Dancin Dan
............................who wears a green plaid coat
.........................with thirteen buttons
............................and purple socks
.........................and is always . . . is always
............................GLAD,
.........................but Mom don't believe it and neither does Dad.
